Engineer

THE ROLE

Do you have 1 to 5 years of civil engineering experience? We just might have the job for you.
The successful candidate will assist in civil site and municipal engineering projects, including assisting in the preparation or modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, studies, permits and designs for projects in the municipal and civil site department.
The key responsibilities of an Engineer include, but are not limited to:
• Assists in the analysis of reports, maps, drawings, tests, photographs and other technical data to plan and design projects.
• Assists in the development of probable construction cost quantities and construction cost estimates for design projects within the department.
• Assists in client contact and communication pertaining to specific projects.
• Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.
• Instructs draftspersons/technicians to reduce designs to working drawings, and performs occasional drafting.

THE PERSON

The key skills and qualities of an Engineer:
• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.
• Experience with AutoCAD skills preferred.
• Knowledge of Iowa DOT and / or SUDAS Standards and Procedures preferred.
• One to five years of engineering experience required.
• Language skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Strong technical and qualitative writing ability, including ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of co-workers, managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
• Mathematical skills: Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry, trigonometry and financial functions to practical situations.
• Reasoning ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret and create an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
• Certificates/licenses/registrations: Valid driver’s license; successful completion of the Professional Engineering Exam with a valid PE license.

Engineering CAD Technician

THE ROLE

Do you have five years of experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D software? If so, we want to talk to you!!
The successful candidate will assist in civil site and municipal engineering projects, participating in designing, drafting and plan preparation.
The key responsibilities of an Engineering CAD Technician include, but are not limited to:
• Complete assigned tasks efficiently and accurately.
• Follow instructions/work orders from project managers/engineers.
• Review and follow project scope, keeping all project information and electronic files well organized.

Engineer In Training

THE ROLE

Are you eager to launch your civil engineering career? If so, we have the job for you!
The successful candidate will assist in civil site and municipal engineering projects.
The key responsibilities of an Engineer In Training include, but are not limited to:
• Prepares, modifies and checks municipal and site project design elements / computations including: water main design, sanitary sewer design, roadway geometrics, vertical profiles, cross-sections, culvert design, pavement design and marking, and traffic control.
• Assists in the preparation or modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, and permits for projects. Instructs designers/technicians to reduce designs to working documents and may also perform occasional drafting.
• Assists in the development of probable construction quantities and construction cost estimates for design projects within the department.
• Designs and conducts analyzes and interprets data.
• Complete assigned tasks efficiently and accurately.
