New Landmark – FOX Volunteers for Boone Welcome Train Project

In the summer of 2020, FOX volunteered to help the City of Boone and the Boone Rotary create a magnificent welcoming landmark.

The Boone Rotary Welcome Train is located on the northeast corner of Highway 30 and South Story Street in Boone.  The project to move a train from one end of town to another didn’t come without its challenges.  According to Jessica Fisher, P.E. and lead project manager, “Our task was to place the train in an area with multiple existing utilities from various companies that needed to be avoided as well as meeting Iowa DOT setback and landscaping requirements.  We were able to locate the train in a way that Boone Rotary envisioned and are proud to assist with creating such an iconic landmark in Boone for years to come.”  The next phase of the project will include sidewalk, lighting, and landscaping.

FOX Engineering’s full scope of services included: site design, which included coordination with DOT, City, Utility Companies, Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad and heavy haulers.  In addition, FOX did the topographic survey, layout staking, storm water pollution prevention plan and are currently doing the erosion control site inspections.
