Winnie Gleason, P.E., Receives Outstanding Service to AWWA Award

Ames, Iowa   FOX Engineering is pleased to announce that Winnie Gleason, P.E., has received the Outstanding Service to AWWA Award from the Iowa Section – American Water Works Association (AWWA). Gleason received the award at the annual meeting in Dubuque, IA, on October 17, 2018.  The award recognizes and honors members of AWWA who have demonstrated outstanding service to the Association through leadership and active participation in AWWA programs.

In 2007, Gleason joined FOX Engineering with over 30 years of experience in water and wastewater engineering. Prior to that, she worked for the city of Ames, IA, in the private sector, and for state environmental agencies.

She holds a B.A. in Environmental Sciences and M.E. in Civil Engineering, both from the University of Virginia. She specializes in assisting cities in developing pre-treatment agreements with their local industries. She has worked for many years with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to enable utilization of the Biotic Ligand Model (BLM) by Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW ) with very low copper limits. After nearly 10 years of advocacy, the BLM was approved in 2017 by the U.S. EPA .

Gleason has served on the Iowa League of Cities Environmental Coordination Committee since it was formed in 2010; the Committee assists the League Executive Board and staff in reviewing, prioritizing, and strategizing on the wide variety of environmental regulatory issues that emerge from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

She has worked tirelessly to raise funds for Water for People, an international non-profit group of water and wastewater professionals working to improve the quality of water, sanitation, and hygiene in developing countries. For 13 years, she has coordinated raffles, contests, silent auctions, and other events to raise funds in the name of clean water around the world.
